Does it really matter if I call it soccer?

Ok as an American citizen of 14 years old, I have always known Association Football as soccer. People, for some odd reason, get very upset when I call it soccer. I plan on calling it soccer for the rest of my life in the United States. I say soccer, you say football, they say futbal. Does calling it something different really change how we view, enjoy, or play the world's most beautiful game?Does it really matter if I call it soccer?
It's just annoying because America tends to have a self importance issue and simply thinks their football should be called football regardless of the fact our football has been around longer than America has been civilized. (Although the term soccer wasn't coined by Americans but its still annoying). I'm a fan of American football and i call it American football but if i was in America I would call it football.Does it really matter if I call it soccer?
Doesn't matter here in the US but if you plan on traveling ever! Do yourself a favor and call it football, It's proper name. Don't sound ignorant call it assoc footy.Does it really matter if I call it soccer?
