Why is everything football (Soccer) on yahoo?

I hate soccer why is it that every country except USA calls Football - FOOTBALL yet we have to put up with soccer after everything because one single country can not call it by its correct name

FIFA - Fed of International FOOTBALL associations

FA - FOOTBALL association

UEFA - Union of European FOOTBALL Association

ITS NOT SOCCER - why call it that? when the USA version of Football never really uses the FOOTWhy is everything football (Soccer) on yahoo?

Actually "soccer" is more correct for the type of football you're thinking of than "football".



There are lots of different types of football, American Football, Australian Football, Gaelic Football, Rugby League Football, Rugby Union Football and of course Association Football (what most of the world call Football).



Soccer is short for Association Football so soccer is more descriptive than football for this type of football.



And, of course Yahoo is American and so are the majority of their users so it makes sense to use something that they will understand.Why is everything football (Soccer) on yahoo?

Many countries call the game soccer besides the US. Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Far Eastern Countries. That is because many countries have a game of National Football that they already played. The name soccer is a name that was created by the English themselves. The world gets by very well with the multiple names.... give it a rest. We will all survive. :-)

Lastly, is the obvious answer. It is an american site, so in puts both names in make sure that there is no confusion. At least they put the proper name first. I always found it interesting that they do not have an MLS sub-site. They have one for other major countries... but not there own?

Just because the Americans use the slang word it doesn't mean we all have to. I always call Association Football, FOOTBALL, and the American game gridiron or American Football.

Literally speaking, if the word soccer is derived from the word Association, a soccer Association would be an Association Association. LOL.
