How do I become a football referee?

To become an American football referee, most people start out at the youth and high school levels. You simply need to find a high school association in your area. Doing a Google search usually works pretty well. For example, Google "football officials association san gabriel" or whatever location you are in.

There is a dire need of refs all across the country in all sports. It is a lot of fun to actually be out there and part of the game rather than just in the stands or on the sofa watching the game.

You do make some money, but you won't get rich doing it. In Southern California, high school officials make about $60-$70 per game, and youth officials make $50-$60.

If you would like more information on how to be a "ref", go to www.sgvfoa.com/be-a-ref.htm or send an email to BeARef@sgvfoa.com.How do I become a football referee?

Um, why would you ask a quesiton and then answer your own? Oh well...

I don't know the steps involved but I believe you would need to get some training in 1) being blind and 2) being deaf.

Then find the team with the highest $ to offer to pay you off and there you go!!

Oh, and don't forget! If you get your paycheck from your team on game day, make sure no one can read it in the back pocket of your white ref pants. Its really too obvious that way who will win the game.
