Why do the Brits get so mad when Americans call 'football' soccer?

I mean it's just a word that they invented (association=soc), and it's not like anybody cares in the States, but some take it so personally it's kind of sad.Why do the Brits get so mad when Americans call 'football' soccer?
Association Football has a number of names in different languages around the world. Soccer is only one of the variants, and as you point out is actually an English term.

I've generally noticed, however, that those who seem to be the most ardent about the word soccer tend to be internet trolls. The real and knowledgeable fans know its the game that is important, not what its called around the world. Why do the Brits get so mad when Americans call 'football' soccer?
I wouldn't get mad about it, however the true name of their game of soccer is actually CALLED football in Britain. It gets very confusing when 2 different things are called by 2 completely different names. We Americans are notorious for this idiocy. Why do we call Native Americans, Indians??? It's so ridiculous. To make things more clear? We call them American Indians. WTF? They are NOT Indians at all.Why do the Brits get so mad when Americans call 'football' soccer?
Soccer is gay
I wish people didn't care over here
