Should Football Associations put a cap on players wages?

anybody heard anything on UEFA`s and FIFA`s stand on this matter.|||No way , Jose. Time was - there was a 拢100 per week cap on player's wages - which was eventually broken - because it only led to bribery, corruption, illicit amounts of extra cash hidden in the boots of 'star' players.

Similar to the way the 1930s prohibition of alcohol led to the rise of gangsterism, Al Capone, murder, etc.

For better or worse, free trade economics allow market forces to eventually sort themselves out - find a settled balance between supply and demand.

It might well appear absurd that a mediocre footballer can 'earn' 拢100,000 per week - perhaps spending 70 minutes sat on a bench - only to perform for 20 minutes - as a late substititute.

Before a crowd of 30, 40, 60 ... 100,000 - willing to pay 拢30 - 拢50 for a ticket - in addition to which their employers receive

millions by way of TV advertising 'rights' - sale of cheaply produced shirts, replica boots, socks, hats, scarves, etc. etc.

So I see no logical reason for clubs to impose maximum wage limits - so that shareholders can benefit all the more.

Such matters even out in due course - although it does take time - and we must be patient.

It might still be a game - but it's also a multi-billion business- with much at stake.

(A greater cause for concern is match-fixing - asian betting rings predicting results of all descriptions - which I think is much more worrisome than daft wages,)|||There should be a cap only if it is tied to the club's revenues. Without the players, there is no game.|||Nope!! Its the players that make the sports so they should be well compensated. These owners are making billions of dollars and only dissing out missing..That not fair at all...|||I dont think so! Because if you are a great player you deserve to get paid and as long as you perform to your full abilities you shouldnt be limited on how much you are allowed to make! So no cap!|||idk|||ideally, yes.

in reality, no. it would break some sort of european employment law.|||no send them to jail.....................|||errapolis is spot on|||If they don't do something soon, competition between the clubs will get lower and lower.

It should be like rugby league or the american soccer leagues, you have the same budget for each club, each year, and you can either have 1 david beckham and loads of rubbish players, or loads of average players and try and make a decent team.

besides, 100k a week or more for kicking a footaball about and being kept fit as anything is just plain nuts. Most players are low working class blokes, thick as dust and no money seems to go back into the area's around where they're from or around the clubs.|||What for?the FA lost the plot a few years ago when they put McClaren as England boss, they wont entertain the idea of video technology even though every other major sport around the world has,so you've no chance on the players wages idea......|||na but they should put a cap on clubs spending

try tell a film star that|||For the main part the game of Football is funded by the ordinary Guy or Gal in the street who are not earning 100k a year let alone a week, so yes cap the wages at 50k a week and let players sort out their own private deals with sponsors.

Far too many below average Footballers earning in excess of 30-50k a week now as that is what the market demands.

Stop the crap and lets get back to the Honesty in Football.

Basic Wages linked to performance ie Strikers scoring goals, Keepers , Defenders keeping clean sheets, perhaps then we will see Players wanting to chase lost causes and fighting till the game is up as their pay depends on it.|||put a cap on players wages going by what some players get each week it would have to be some size of a cap
