here are some i have:
*soccer came from the word association football, but the name FOOTball makes SOO much more sense, afterall you use your FEET to kick a ball.
*in american footbal, or as americans like to call it, just FOOTball, you mainly use your HANDS. Hmm a sport where you use your hands. i know! lets call it football! Right....
*the european game footbal was around before we even discovered america, so football was already a sport when they named their sport american football

Don't worry about it mate. Just because the Americans call it soccer it doesn't mean the rest of the world has to. I'm beginning to think whoever started calling it soccer did it just to piss everyone else off and by the number of times this has been asked and answered, it must be working.
