Football, soccer - what do you think?

I got this answer to one of my questions about footballers:

"They are soccer players, when is the rest of the world going to get the terminology right."

My opinion:

They are not soccer players, they are footballers! Football is the European game, not the American. The European is much older. Foot and ball - this is enough to be said, cause Americans don't even use a ball, by the way it's meant to look! That's why FIFA means Federation Internationale de FOOTBALL Association. Whole world says football, only the Americans don't.

I know the europeans will say I am right, the Americans will say I am not, but tell me your opinion any way.Football, soccer - what do you think?
My sentiments exactly. Football (soccer) has been around far longer than American football, so I fail to see why the rest of the world should start calling football by a different name to fit in with one country. American football involves the hands rather than the feet, so why it is known as football anyway is beyond me.

The hint is in the quote you gave; ''when is the rest of the world going to get the terminology right?'' I suggest that if the whole world except one country calls them footballers, then this is the correct terminology.

To me 'soccer players' will always be footballers.
I think they are not same.Football, soccer - what do you think?
In Spanish speaking countries it is called futbol (with a tilde or accent in the u) It has always been called that because the British invented the name so why change it? I don't know where soccer came from. MM that is a good question to ask. Spanish purists call it "balon pie" which is a translation of foot and ball...
You are right.

History aside, the only country or people that call football soccer are Americans. Go anywhere else in the world, and the word soccer does not exist!Football, soccer - what do you think?
FIFA is a French Word - they write Football, like in English - but they pronounce it different. But basically, you are right - because the players of American "Football" use their HANDS to throw the ball - and not their FEET!!
I agree it should be callled football. Wait..it is called football all over the world except in this country. I think it would be very interesting if FIFA would step in and challenge the name rights of the game.

Also, I agree that the American footbal has only 2 players that kick the ball. The punter and the field goal kicker.
I think you're right! 100% right! The whole world says FOOTBALL, just the stubborn Americans don't! The sport is called FOOTBALL, because FIFA means:

Federation

Internationale de

Football

Association

If it was called soccer, it would be FISA! And that just isn't right.
It's football
i don't like em
the americans are stupid ok because its true that they are the only ones who say soccer by the way how was soccer derived to mean football! anyway its the FOOTBALL association and not the soccer association. there go the americans again tryin to make the world do as they say
